January 19, 2016: Marine Natural Product Chemistry Seminar

Prof. Dr. Rohan A. Davis, Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery, Griffith University, Brisbane, QLD 4111, Australia:"Chemical and biological adventures with indole alkaloids from Australian marine invertebrates"

14:00 h, Lecture Hall GEOMAR Düsternbrooker Weg 20

Abstract:

Over the last half-century of marine natural products research, marine invertebrates, such as sponges and ascidians have been a prolific source of indole alkaloids. Cytotoxicity, anticancer, antibacterial and antiparasitic activities are some of the biological properties that have been reported for this class of alkaloids. This diversity of biological function makes this structure class an attractive starting point for chemical biology and drug discovery programs. This presentation will describe some of the new natural product chemistry, biology and medicinal chemistry research being conducted by Davis group at the Eskitis Institute in Australia.
