We will work with digital cameras. You should have basic experience in processing images with Affinity Photo, GIMP, Adobe Photoshop or a comparable image editing tool.
The course accommodates a maximum of 6 students. Information about the course
The course provides a hands-on introduction to visual geography. Each participant will develop a photographic project, from the idea to the finished photo book. Students will gain experience of using photography to explore and communicate geographic issues. Geography is both art and science. Art strives for expression, science for knowledge. In their combination, inspiration, understanding, and beauty can emerge. Visual geography expresses thoughts in images. The aim of this course is to provide a space, a learning community, input and support for participants to explore and communicate a geographic issue using photography. Each participant will explore an issue of his/her interest and document this exploration in a visual diary consisting of thoughts, photos and sources of inspiration. As a result of this exploration, each participant will produce a photo book. The course will provide input on photographic concepts as well as photobook design. Examination will be based on the project, comprising both the visual diary and the final photo book.
