You enjoy Cultural Studies and want to do more with it? You would like to discuss current topics (cultural appropriation, questions of gender and racism, nature rights, social media and the alt right, colonialism
) with other like-minded people, fellow students and teachers alike, without the pressure of evaluation? Youre also interested in gaining experience in planning and executing events with invited guests from the fields of arts, culture and the academy? Then come and join our extracurricular group Culturitical, organized by students and teachers of the English department, where we invite cultural actors from various fields and talk Cultural Studies; a list of our previous events can be found here: https://www.cultural-studies.uni-kiel.de/#culturitical. For the summer term, we are planning to participate in Kiel Week, and also to develop new formats all ideas welcome! Our group will meet on a weekly basis during the summer term, starting from Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 4pm. All students of the English department, but also from other disciplines, are most welcome to join! Basic knowledge in the field of Cultural Studies would be helpful, though. Please note that we conduct our meetings in English and that no credit points can be gained.

- Research Colloquium Cultural Studies
The research colloquium course provides a forum where graduate and PhD-students are exposed to the most current research in the field of cultural studies. The main purpose of the research colloquium is to provide guidance, mentorship, and encouragement to researchers in the early phases of their training; it provides students and staff with an opportunity to discuss their works in progress (Masters thesis, dissertation, or else) and to receive feedback from their colleagues and peers on their research. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to read and discuss current original research papers from the field of cultural studies.
All master students who are currently writing, or planning to write their thesis in the field of cultural studies, or who are just interested in discussing current cultural studies, are invited to this course. If you would like to present an outline/proposal of your thesis, please feel free to send me an email (huck@anglistik.uni-kiel.de).
