Research Interests
My PhD project focuses on the role of phagocytosis in sponge-microbiome crosstalk. I aim to uncover insights into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of immune discrimination in the marine sponge, Halichondria panicea. In particular, how does the sponge determine what microorganisms are friend, food, or foe? I use flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and a variety of omics approaches.
