Ocean Research Technology Centre (ORTC)

The Ocean Research Technology Centre (ORTC) is the central facility for seagoing and digital research infrastructures. By combining expertise in the areas of automation, modularization, digitalization and operation of research equipment, the ORTC represents an important component for supporting modern ocean research.

The ORTC consists of three core areas: seagoing technologies, data technologies and information technologies.

The ORTC covers a wide range of tasks: From the support of deep-sea equipment and its use on expeditions to supporting science in the open and transparent handling of research data, research software and publications according to the FAIR principle (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) as well as publication and re-use. ORTC also operates the data centre as well as the entire IT infrastructure.

With this integrative approach to the operation and further development of research infrastructures, the ORTC implements the strengths and values of the GEOMAR 2030 strategy
