The department maintains a fully equipped weather station on top of the building. In cooperation with the German Weather Service DWD we maintain a weather station on top of the Kiel lighthouse approximately 8km offshore in the Kiel bight. Both time series go back until 1986 and serve as reliable data sources for monitoring weather and climate in the Kiel region.
