Open House 2024 at GEOMAR

Our World is the Ocean

At the end of the summer holidays, GEOMAR will open its doors again on Sunday, 1 September from 11 am to 5 pm on the eastern shore.

On this day, we offer exciting insights behind the scenes of ocean research. What questions about the oceans are currently occupying scientists? How do we investigate these questions? Scientists from various GEOMAR research areas will provide answers at information stands and in lectures in the lecture theatre. Original deep-sea equipment in GEOMAR's Technology and Logistics Centre will give an impression of the technology required to explore little-known ocean floors. Visit our new building and enjoy a fantastic view of the fjord in our new library, a meeting place. There will also be an art exhibition on the theme “Colorful World of the Oceans”.

Please note: Due to a construction site at the new GEOMAR building, we have adjusted the visitor guidance on the Seefischmarkt site. The Schwentine Quay is closed in the area behind the new building. Please follow the signs to the individual venues. Due to the major event ‘Ahoy Ostufer’ on the Seefischmarkt, there are no parking facilities on the GEOMAR site. Please use public transport if possible. The Schwentine ferry also runs from the Reventlou pier according to a special timetable. Our tip: Come by bike.

The event is a contribution to the festival at the Kiel Sea Fish Market "Ahoi Ostufer: Fisch, Forschung und Vergnügen"
