Scientific Advisory Board of GEOMAR meets in Kiel
The focus of this year's meeting was mainly on the GEOMAR 2030 Strategy and the exchange with scientists
The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) met for its annual meeting at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel in early October. The meeting was held in person for the first time in two years. This year, the board mainly dealt with the development of the GEOMAR 2030 strategy, the future concept of the technics and logistics center and entered into a dialogue with young scientists. Overall, the committee was very satisfied with the development of the marine research institute – the detailed written recommendations of the advisory board on the individual topics discussed will be made available to GEOMAR shortly.
"I am pleased that this year we again had the opportunity to personally exchange ideas with the Advisory Board on future concepts and scientific issues," says GEOMAR Director Professor Dr. Katja Matthes. "I would like to express my sincere thanks to all colleagues on the board, who have provided important impulses for the further development of GEOMAR with their expertise and recommendations."
The Scientific Advisory Board advises the Board of Trustees and the Directorate at GEOMAR on scientific issues of fundamental importance. It consists of up to twelve recognized scientists from Germany and abroad who are appointed for four years. The Advisory Board meets annually.
