Teaching

The professors and senior scientists of the department of marine geodynamics teach at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Their lectures are part of the undergraduate course Physics of the Earth System and the graduate courses Master of Geophysics and Master of Marine Geosciences. More information is available at https://www.ifg.uni-kiel.de/en/studies. We offer MSc and BSc thesis supervision. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about possible thesis projects. Either check with the most appropriate researcher or with Heidrun Kopp (hkopp(at)geomar.de) or Christian Berndt (cberndt(at)geomar.de).

Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches
This course is appropriate for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of the Materials Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering Technology, and Chemistry. Although the participation to this course does not require any specific prerequisite or capacity testing, the B.Sc. students are expected to be at a senior level (i.e. starting as of summer semester of the second year).

Inhalt
The students have knowledge about wearable biosensor technology, the classification of wearable sensors and their performance parameters. They know advanced transducing nanomaterials for wearable sensors and noninvasive wearable biosensors like sweat- development of skin patch for glucose and lactate monitoring. They have knowledge about the development of wearable hybrid patch and of multifunctional and breathable physiological biosensors.
• Discuss the motivation, merits, and challenges in the field of wearable (bio)sensing technologies
• Describe the definition of wearable (bio)sensors, components, and their classification
• Describe the performance parameters of wearable (bio)sensors
• Describe the principle of all major wearable bio(sensor) types
• Describe the transducing nanomaterials and their characterization methods for wearable sensors
• Biorecognition elements for wearable (bio)sensors
• Describe signal detection techniques for every wearable sensor.
• Describe the applications of the introduced wearable sensor systems for biomedical applications
