Digitalization, data management and data science are high on the agenda on international, national and centre level.  GEOMAR is involved in many different initiatives that are running in parallel.  Names like NFDI, DAM, Paktmittel, HGF Incubator, Digital Earth, ESM , HIP, HIDA, HDFm ... are all over the place. Jens Greinert (coordinator of Digital Earth) will give a brief overview of what all these abriavations mean, what is ongoing at GEOMAR and what is planned for the near future.  Willi Rath (data scientist in the Ocean Dynamics department) will outline resulting challenges for RD1 and highlight achievements the RD1 made towards handling marine big data.
