Abstract:
Within the ICON model development project a number of model configurations is under development, ranging from regional atmospheric large eddy resolving to global general circulation models for th atmosphere and the ocean and a coupled Earth system model. In this presentation the ICON model system will be introduced with a focus on the global atmospheric model configuration using the non-hydrostatic dynamical core and the physical parameterizations inherited from the ECHAM6 model in AMIP experiments. Further the development plan for the Earth system model will be outlined.
