Ocean Race Fly-By and Open Ship on the LITTORINA on June 9, 2023

Insights into marine science on the research vessel

The Ocean Race sailing regatta will round the turning mark directly in front of the keel line on June 9. Therefore, from June 8 to 10, there will be a colorful program for all ages at the Ocean Live Park at Kiellinie on the topics of sustainability and marine research.

The Fly-By Panel will take place on June 9 from 12:00-13:30 on the stage in the Conference Center (the Bayernzelt) with Arved Fuchs, GEOMAR scientist Dr. Toste Tanhua and Stefan Raimund. It will be moderated by Dr. Yasmin Appelhans.

Program at the Open Ship from 11:00 to 18:00:

  • Marine animals and algae from the Kiel Fjord; Dr. Frank Melzner shows creatures from the sea.
  • Guided tours to the Kiel benthocosms at 12:00 | 13:00 | 14:00 | 15:00
  • Use of mobile marine geoelectrics, Institute of Geosciences, Christan-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Ercan Ergul with the "Use of mobile marine geoelectrics for mapping of Pockmark-clusters in the Eckernförde Bay".

From 8 to 10 June, GEOMAR is also represented with a pagoda on the Reventlouwiese. In it, the EuroSea project presents itself, together with Sub C Tech, Team Malizia and Green Boats. Trans-Ocean e.V. – Verein zur Förderung des Hochseesegelns e.V. presents the new joint project “Citizen Science: Sailing for Oxygen”
