Kiel Marine Conservation City Day on June 8, 2024

GEOMAR is looking forward to your visit on and around the Reventlouwiese on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord

Every year, World Oceans Day is held on June 8 to honor the blue lungs of our planet and focus on their importance to mankind. Kiel, the capital of the land between two seas, also celebrates Marine Conservation City Day. Various exhibitors on the Reventlouwiese will offer a colorful program for learning, watching and participating, presented by Ocean Summit and Kiel Marketing. GEOMAR will also be there on June 8.

MOBY Stage, Reventlouwiese (14-15 h)

  • Opening talk Marine Conservation City Day 2024 with Kim Nierobisch (UN Ocean Decade German Committee), Dr. Mark Lenz (GEOMAR), Prof. Dr. Silja Klepp (Kiel Marine Science / CAU Kiel) and Alke Voß, Head of Department for Environment, Climate Protection and Mobility of the City of Kiel.

Expedition tent in the sailing camp on the Reventlouwiese (12-18 h)

  • Information station and hands-on experiment: How can the sea help us store carbon to protect the climate? (CDRmare)
  • Guided tours of the KOSMOS mesocosms, study: How does an increase in pH affect marine life? (Ocean Alk-Allign)Registration and start: Expedition tent in the sailing camp (max. 10 people)
