IATI

Jointly with the Helmholtz Centers UFZ, Leipzig and GFZ, Potsdam, GEOMAR has participated in the preparation of a strategic plan for the development of an "Institute for Advanced Technology Integration" (IATI) in the Sultanate of Oman. In the framework of a consulting contract with the Oman Research Council (TRC,) the mandate, long-term goals and structure of IATI were developed.

IATI will be a center for applied research that aims at developing marketable products and solutions based on science and innovation. It will foster innovation in a holistic approach to address critical scientific, technological, and innovation challenges.

The backbone of IATI will be a body of applied researchers working in groups centered around different core topics. The initial three core topics, ´Water´, ´Oil & Gas´, and ´Renewables´ will be the basis for the development of the IATI concept and the focus of pilot projects. IATI will become a local hub providing an optimal and attractive environment to facilitate applied, high-impact research.
