Stuttgart: Naturkundemuseum

New permanent exhibition at Schloss Rosenstein

Diversity on water and on land – this is what visitors can experience at the Stuttgart Museum of Natural History and learn more about evolution and biodiversity. As part of a new concept, the Natural History Museum has redesigned the most prominent exhibition rooms in the Rosenstein Castle. In the marine hall, there are also some new exhibits to be seen in addition to the already familiar 13-metre-long sei whale - including loans from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.

The loans include deep-sea organisms, for example a crocodile lanternfish (Lampanyctus crocodilus). They are from the collection of Dr Johannes Kinzer. He was a marine biologist and aquarium director at the former Kiel Institute of Oceanography. The marine biologist collected the deep-sea organisms in the 1960s and 1970s during expeditions to the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In addition, GEOMAR contributed sand samples with microplastics, a sample of a black smoker and manganese nodules.
