Dr. Morelia Urlaub's research aims to better understand volcanic landslides that occur underwater. When a volcano flank collapses, it causes a great danger. The fast transport of material into the deep can trigger tsunamis that threaten even very distant coasts. With a better understanding of the behavior of island volcanoes and volcanic flanks on the coasts, we can hopefully better predict future natural hazards in order to be able to warn the people living on the coasts in time.

For her research she recently received the ERC Starting Grant for the PRE-COLLAPSE project.
