Submersible JAGO explores the submarine volcano at El Hierro

For the first time ever, researchers have inspected the submarine volcano at El Hierro, the youngest and geologically most active of the Canary Islands, with their own eyes. On an expedition with the German research vessel POSEIDON, a team of scientists from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Instituto Español de Oceanografía, Centro Oceanográfico de Canarias (IEO), and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, used the manned research submersible JAGO to gain first-hand impressions from the site.
