The Friday Researchers Club is a regular feature of GEOMAR's school programs. Here, young people from grade 8 and above have the opportunity to pursue research questions in the field of marine and climate sciences under the supervision of experts.
This support program is aimed at particularly motivated and talented pupils who want to explore scientific methods and work processes in greater depth beyond their science lessons at school and who enjoy working with like-minded people.
Initially, the students' research projects are stimulated by joint experimentation and by presentations of various aspects of GEOMAR's research. Implementation takes place through background research by the pupils and experiments of their own. The scope can range from small projects over a few weeks to contributions to science competitions such as "Jugend forscht". In terms of content, the areas of marine ecology and chemistry, physical oceanography and meteorology, as well as geology and geophysics can be addressed.
Pupils work on their projects alone or in teams. In cooperation with its project partners, GEOMAR provides staff, premises, equipment and materials for this purpose. Pupils are expected to show initiative, flexibility and long-term commitment.
Due to limited space and supervision capacities, the number of participants is also limited.
