The University of the West Indies St. Augustine, Trinidad & Tobago with its four campusses is the result of cooperation and combined efforts of 17 states and territories in the Caribbean. The Trinidad branch was founded in 1960 and is home for the School of Natural Sciences. Therefore, St. Augustine makes for another tropical location in our network, and currently the only one in the tropical Atlantic. The Caribbean with its high biodiversity is a rewarding field of exploration for GAME, and we’re very happy to have a cooperative partner here since 2008. GAME on Trinidad is tutored by Dr Judith Gobin.

The University of Bangor, including its marine biological research facilities, is situated on the Isle of Anglesey near the Menai Strait, a natural channel segregating the island from the British mainland. A rocky shore with considerable tidal range creates extensive and easily accessible areas for the researching biologist or student. GAME at this site is tutored by Dr Stuart Jenkins.

  • You would like to write your Master's thesis on a marine ecology topic, complete the experimental phase in binational teams of two abroad and be comprehensively introduced to working as a scientist? Then apply now for the participation in GAME 2025.
From March 2025, GAME will investigate the influence of nocturnal artificial light on the growth of epiphytes growing on macroalgae.
Information on the procedure, participation requirements and why GAME could be interesting for you can be found here ►

  • Completed GAME projects

All GAME projects are presented here in the overview. As of 2012, there is a final report in German for each project, which can be downloaded as a PDF.

There are also blogs by the teams from the various project years at www.oceanblogs.org.

  • Since 2011, GAME has been supported and advised by a Board of Trustees.

  • We would like to thank all sponsors who have made GAME 2022 possible through their financial commitment!

    Become a supporter of GAME!

From 2002 to 2008, GAME was funded by the Mercator Foundation and subsequently by the Kiel University Foundation and GEOMAR. Since 2011, supporters from the German foundation landscape, from the (predominantly maritime) industry, as well as private donors could be gained.

To ensure that the program can continue in the future, we are looking for additional supporters who would like to get involved in marine research, the education of students and the international networking of scientists. Make your donation possible for future students from all over the world to participate in this international training program that combines applied research with excellent education.
