The Benthic Biogeochemistry Group is operating Gas Chromatographs (GC) and Mass Spectrometers (MS) to determine free and dissolved gases at the seafloor:

Shimadzu 2014 gas chromatograph with autosampler for headspace-gas analyses
i.e. headspace gases (N2/O2, methane-propane, CO2, H2S) released from sediment and water samples;
detector: FID, TCD

Thermo Trace gas chromatograph for hydrocarbon (C1-C6) gas analyses of headspace;
detector: FID

ThermoFinnigan "MAT253" mass spectrometer inline with ThermoTrace gas chromatograph and combustion oven; sample vials of 10-100 ml volume can be used with attached autosampler;
13C/12C-analyses of methane-propane and CO2 are conducted for headspace gases of water and sediment samples

Shimadzu GCMS with quadrupole-detector for measuring productes from solid phase thermal desorption and pyrolysis (e.g. organic compounds released from organic matter or plastic)
