B3 – Drilling Technologies for Marine Gas Hydrate Deposits

Sub-project B3 will develop new drilling and production concepts that address the specific challenges of marine gas hydrate deposits. This involves all aspects of construction and completion of bore holes, the realization of drilling operations, required safety measures, and risk minimization. Existing techniques from all types of drilling are reviewed and transferred into novel concepts, e.g. for mobile platforms, seafloor installations, suitable multilateral drillings. In collaboration with B1, numerical simulations are performed to assess those strategies.
