Expedition M81-2a with RV Meteor was conducted between the 11th and the 29th of March, 2010. It led from Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago through the Caribbean to Willemstad, Curaçao. The major objective of the cruise was to identify the plate tectonic origin of the Caribbean plate by means of magnetic soundings, profiling and sampling of hard rocks by ROV and dredges. Further objectives were the documentation of internal structures of this Igneous Province and the chronology of magmatic events during its formation as well as of the chronological sequences of the internal deformation.
ROV KIEL 6000 was deployed to sample selected profiles stratigraphically controlled.
