Expedition M194 with RV METEOR: Hexplores

Expedition M194 took place in the Red Sea between the 10th of October and the 6th of November, 2023 and led from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Pireus, Greece.

Main objective of the cruise was the reconnaissance and investigation of hydrothermal system along the spreading axis of the Red Sea. The tasks for the ROV were exploration and sampling of rocks, microbes, brine pool fluids, sediments and megafauna. In addition, temperature was measured at selected locations and water an fluid samples were taken.

We conducted 15 scientific dives in water depths between 550 and 2100 m.
