The expedition SO225 with RV SONNE took place between November 2012 and January 2013. It was conducted within the framework of a BMBF funded co-operative project and led to Manihiki Plateau iin the equatorial Pacific between 3-15° South and 170-160° West (vicinity of the Cook islands).
During 4 ROV dives, 32 rock samples could be retrieved along 2 profiles in the North and central area of the Manihiki plateau (North Plateau and Danger Island Troughs). Stratigraphically controlled sampling along a 3 km long profile between 4600 and 3260m water depth along the south-eastern extension of the Northern Plateau was especially successful.
