The department "Information Technologies (IT)" is part of the newly founded "Ocean Research Technology Centre (ORTC)" and is responsible for the IT infrastructure at GEOMAR.
As the central IT service provider for the entire centre, including the administration, the department provides a wide range of IT services to efficiently support the work processes at GEOMAR.

Its tasks include the provision of services based on the IT infrastructure. This includes the Campus network, the operation of two computer centres and the management of end devices such as PCs, notebooks, tablets, printers and smartphones. The department also provides digital services and media technology in lecture theatres, meeting and conference rooms.
GEOMAR IT is also widely networked, not only within the Helmholtz Association, e.g. as a participant in the "Deutsches Forschungsnetzwerk (DFN)" and the "Landessprachnetz Schleswig-Holstein (VOIP).
