Expedition POS438 with RV Poseidon: De-Installation MoLab

Chief Scientist: Dr. Olaf Pfannkuche, GEOMAR Kiel

The expedition POS438 with RV POSEIDON took place between the 10th and the 18th of September, 2012. The main working area was located in the Stjernsund in Northern Norway. In this sound, where one of the most northern cold water coral reefs can be found, the MOLAB underwater observatory had been installed some months before by, among other means, using ROV PHOCA. The main objective of this cruise was the de-installation of the observatory. 

During POS438, ROV PHOCA accomplished 11 dives during which Eddy Correlation Systems were deployed and recovered, for exampled. In addition, dives were used for inspection and documentation of the working area.

RV Poseidon returend to Tromsö on the 19th of September to disembark technicians and scientists und returned to its home port in Kiel on the 27th of September 20102.
