Scripps Institution for Oceanography is primarily situated just down the hill from the main UC San Diego campus in La Jolla. The university provides a free shuttle service between the two campuses that runs approximately every 15 minutes.

There is also a tram (trolley) from downtown San Diego to the main campus on the blue line.

As with many US cities public transport is sparse, but Uber / Lyft / private taxis are also of course available. If you plan to stay a little longer (see some ideas below) hiring a car might also be an option, though parking on campus can be limited.

International Travel

San Diego airport (SAN) is well connected nationally and internationally. At the time of writing, both Lufthansa and British Airways fly direct to San Diego (SAN), from Frankfurt and London respectively.

La Jolla is approximately 14 miles from the airport. Taxis, Lyft, and Uber are available and the preferred option. Public transportation is slow (the #30 and #150 buses travel from downtown to La Jolla) and the new Blue Line Trolley travels from close to the airport to UCSD campus.

Los Angeles (LAX) Airport serves most international destinations non-stop and can be cheaper to fly into than San Diego. However, it is either a 2h car drive (rental cars suggested) or there is a (very scenic!) train service from Los Angeles to downtown San Diego, with a stop in Solana Beach, from which the #101 bus travels to La Jolla. However, connection from LAX to the train station is not good. Again, rental cars/vans preferred, and we encourage participants to carpool/organize ahead of time if they travel from overseas.
