Forschungsinteressen:

Die Forschungsinteressen meiner Arbeitsgruppe in der „Chemischen Paläozeanographie“ konzentrieren sich auf die Rekonstruktion der Ozeanzirkulation und deren Zusammenhänge mit dem Klima der Vergangenheit auf unterschiedlichen Zeitskalen. Außerdem werden Zusammenhänge zwischen dem Verwitterungseintrag von den Kontinenten, Nährstoffnutzung, biologischer Produktivität und dem Klima untersucht.  Für diese Rekonstruktionen werden geochemische und isotopische Proxy-Indikatoren entwickelt, verbessert und angewandt. Hierbei stehen radiogene (Nd, Pb, Hf, Sr), stabile (z.B. Si, Fe, Ba, Mo), und kosmogene (10Be) Isotopensysteme, sowie Elementverteilungen (z.B. Seltenerdelemente, REEs) im Zentrum des Interesses. Neben der Extraktion dieser Proxy-Signale aus marinen Archiven (Sedimente, Mangan/Eisen- Krusten und Knollen) liegt ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf dem Verständnis der Prozesse, die diese Proxy-Indikatoren in der heutigen Wassersäule steuern. Hierzu beteiligen wir uns aktiv an den detaillierten Untersuchungen des globalen Ozeans im internationalen koordinierten GEOTRACES-Programm, um diese Proxies für ihre Anwendungen zur Rekonstruktion der Vergangenheit zu kalibrieren. Unsere Gruppe betreibt ein modernes spurenmetallsauberes Labor und ein MC-ICP-Massenspektrometer und wendet in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Gruppen am GEOMAR weitere analytische Techniken und Messmethoden an, um umfassende Multi-Proxy-Datensätze zu erreichen.
