Target of this Module
Students learn and train field and laboratory methods of Geoarchaeology. They experience the potentials and limits of these methods with respect to reconstruct the history of cultural landscapes. Analysis of long-term human-environment interactions broadens the knowledge horizons of students and enables a better understanding of recent problems of ecosystems.
Content of this Module
Geomorphological and sedimentological field and laboratory methods, analysis of Holocene sediments (slope deposits, alluvial deposits, lake sediments, human deposits, buried soils) to reconstruct the impact of natural (e.g. climate) and human processes in ecosystems. Students are organised in teams to work in projects.

Inhalt
The aim of this course is to learn more about geoarchaeology and human-environment relationships in the surroundings of Kiel. We will visit sites which have been changed by human activities in the past and discuss current effects (e.g., Kiel Kanal, Haithabu and others). We will also apply practical exercises in the field, and the theory will be topic in a blocked seminar.
