- This lecture will introduce key concepts and theoretical approaches to literature and culture, beginning with exemplary readings of literary texts from American and British literature. The lecture will give a survey of current theoretical approaches in English and American studies, place theoretical approaches in a wider systematic and historical context and present step-by-step case studies of working with theoretical approaches (e.g. formalist approaches, approaches to literature in history and in decolonization processes, gender and queer studies, concepts for studying literary cultures, ecocriticism).
Please note that the lecture is accompanied by mandatory Lecture Tutorials for BA students. (To attend, you need to register for the lecture on OLAT there are no separate OLAT courses for the tutorial groups. Further information will be sent via OLAT email as soon as term starts.) MA students will teach the tutorials and take part in my Tutor mentoring / Tutorenbetreuung class.
Materials (presentations, additional primary texts, excerpts from theoretical texts) will be provided on OLAT.
